BCS solution: 3P1

I'm always solving problems...

...Working late, and had to get this one off my chest:

Problem:  People don't like how the BCS determines the NCAA college football championship.
Solution:  Extend the season 1 week to allow a 4-team modified bracket as follows:

BCS 3P1

The Top 3 part:  Top 3 teams in the nation are assigned to seeds 1, 2 & 3 respectively

The Plus 1 (P1) part (aka The Boise State Rule) 4th seed is reserved for the highest ranked undefeated team that is not already nationally ranked 1 through 4.  If there is no undefeated teams in top 25, the 4th team is filled with the 4th nationally ranked team.

Pros:

• Solves the Boise State problem.
• Two more corporations can sponsor these new playoff games.
• This gives the championship game a warm-up week so the following championship teams will be back in the swing.
• Can provide an exciting 1 vs. 4 prove yourselves game to a smaller undefeated team, and hype the final game huge if they win.

Cons:

• Extends the season 1 week.

photo editing / conversion guidelines

In terms of file size, photos from digital cameras are usually much larger than they need to be on the web - due primarily to high resolutions and color depths.  If you’re sizing an image down to be worked with on the web, start by cutting its color depth down to 96 dpi (or even 72 dpi), and set it’s width to no more than 1200px.  This will set it up so it can be easily worked with on a website.

Everyone gets annoyed when they have to wait 5 seconds on a webpage. Count out a legit 5-Mississippi's in your head and see what I mean.

Our designers are doing this at Cool Sheds, to streamline their shed inventory screens for South Carolina. Take a look, and maybe shop for a shed or carport while you're there.

Here's a quick demo of what I mean: Here's a picture of a Cool Sheds Delivery Service's shed moving truck. Does this picture's quality look terrible to you? It's just 1/18th of the file size of the original photo - which had the same screen dimensions. That's what optimizing your photos gets you. Your users won't have to wait for nothing.

Everyone needs a website.

One of the first problems that Charleston needs solving:  Everyone needs a website.  (more accurately - every person or organization that desires a way for the public to find them; needs a website.)

I've solved this problem on the cheap for my clients.  It doesn't mean they've lost functionality though - there's just almost always a simple solution that takes a little finding.  Soon, I'll post just how I did it.
